GEORGE R.R. MARTIN ADAPTING NEW HBO SHOW

Nnedi Okorafor is on board for her 2010 sci-fi novel to turn into a premium television show at the hands of executive producer and writer Martin. The novel, Who Fears Death, takes place in a post-apocalyptic Sudan, and follows Onyesonwu, who uses her magical powers to defeat her sorcerer father Daib.

Who Fears Death won the 2011 World Fantasy Award for best novel, as well as the Carl Brandon Kindred Award in 2010 for outstanding fiction dealing with race and ethnicity. “My World Fantasy Award-winning novel Who Fears Death has been optioned by HBO and is now in early development as a TV series with George R. R. Martin as executive producer,” the author wrote on her Facebook page. “Note: This did not happen overnight. It’s been nearly four years coming.”

Martin is currently working on at least four, maybe five, potential Game of Thrones prequels. He has signed a deal on the franchise with HBO and will continue to work on it.
