George Michael has come out to deny the allegations that he’s seeking treatment for an addiction to crack cocaine.

George Michael Crack Addiction? He Says Allegations Are False

Jackie Georgiou, the wife of Michael’s cousin Andros, claimed that the singer has been in an outpatient treatment program for a crack addiction in a recent interview with British tabloid The Sun. According to Georgiou, “Before he went away he got to the point where he would be shaking, saying ‘I need it.”

Michael’s rep has flat out denied Georgiou’s allegations.

“Whilst it is our general policy not to comment on private matters, we would in this instance note that these highly inaccurate stories have been apparently provided to the press by the wife of a very distant family member, neither of whom has had any dealings with him for seventeen years,” the rep told Entertainment Tonight. “It is therefore unsurprising that they are so incorrect. Beyond this we have no further comment to make as the matter is now in the hands of Mr. Michael’s lawyers.”

Prior to the official statement from his rep, Michael had taken to Twitter to brush off the claims made by his cousin’s wife.

“To my lovelies, do not believe this rubbish in the papers today by someone I don’t know anymore and haven’t seen for nearly 18 years,” he tweeted. “I am perfectly fine and enjoyed Wimbledon like the rest of you. Wish it went to 5 sets though!”

Though Michael and his rep are dismissing these recent claims of drug use, the former Wham! singer has run into trouble with drugs in the past, mostly with cannabis. In the last incident, back in 2010, Michael pleaded guilty for driving under the influence of drugs.
