George H.W. Bush’s Service Dog, Sully, To Travel To D.C. With Late President’s Casket [PHOTO]

George H.W. Bush‘s service dog Sully will accompany the casket of the former U.S. president, who died Friday at age 94, when it is flown to Washington, D.C.

CNN reported Sunday that the yellow Labrador will travel with Bush’s casket before returning to help other former veterans.

Jim McGrath, a spokesman for Bush, tweeted a photo Sunday night of Sully seemingly sleeping by the late president’s casket.

“Mission complete,” McGrath captioned the picture, using the hashtag #Remembering41.

Sully is a highly trained service dog that began working with Bush over the summer, just a few months after the 41st president’s wife Barbara Bush died in April.

After Bush died in his native Houston on Friday, dozens of prominent public figures shared tributes to the late leader, who helped guide the U.S. out of the Cold War. President Donald Trump even declared Wednesday, Dec. 5 to be a national day of mourning for Bush and ordered that government offices be closed on that day.

Former President George W. Bushthe 43rd president, called his father a “man of the highest character” following his death.

Bush Sr.’s funeral will reportedly be held Wednesday morning at the Washington National Cathedral. He will be laid to rest in the Capitol Rotunda until then.

Several of the late president’s relatives, including George W. Bush and granddaughters Jenna Bush Hager, Marshall and Ashley Bush all opened up about the leader’s passing in interviews with NBC’s Today show.

Marshall, who was in the room when her grandfather died, described what it was like to see him pass.

“It was incredibly peaceful and sweet, beyond sweet,” Marshall told Savannah Guthrie“A bunch of our family and best family friend were there and everyone was touching him and holding him. We just wanted to make sure that he knew we loved him as much as he loved us, and that he wasn’t alone. It was really beautiful.”
