ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN - JANUARY 17: Former U.S. President George Bush visits a tent camp for earthquake survivors on the outskirts of Islamabad on January 17, 2006 in Pakistan. Bush, 81, came as a special envoy for the United Nations to speak with survivors of the October 8 earthquake that killed more than 75,000 people and left another 3.5 million homeless. He had been scheduled to visit the earthquake zone, but helicopter flights to the area were grounded because of bad weather. (Photo by John Moore/Getty Images)
Former U.S. President George H.W. Bush was discharged from a Houston hospital on Friday.
Bush was admitted to Houston Methodist on April 14 for observation due to a persistent cough. He was diagnosed with pneumonia and chronic bronchitis. It was his second hospital stay for 2017.
Spokesperson Jim McGrath announced the news on Twitter.
“President and Mrs. Bush are very pleased to be home spending time with family and friends and grateful for the outstanding care provided by his doctors and nurses,” the statement said.
Bush will continue receiving treatment for bronchitis at home.
In January, the former Republican president spent more than two weeks at Houston Methodist, much of it in the intensive care unit, during a previous bout with pneumonia.
His wife, Barbara Bush, had a stay at the same hospital for treatment of bronchitis in January.
Bush, the nation’s oldest living ex-president, served a single term in the Oval Office as America’s 41st commander-in-chief from 1989 through 1993.
