The 41st president of the United States, George H.W. Bush, has returned to his home in Kennebunkport, Maine for the summer after being hospitalized for two weeks due to a blood infection.

On April 22, President Bush, 93, was taken to Houston Methodist Hospital the day after funeral services were held for his wife of 73 years, Barbara Bush.

Bush had been recovering in Texas after contracting the infection. He was anxious to return to Maine after the death of his wife, said friends of the former president.

Dozens welcomed Bush home when he arrived in his motorcade to Dock Square, according to a tweet by his spokesperson, Jim McGrath.

President Bush was able to enjoy watching Hamilton at Houston’s Hobby Center on Saturday night before arriving to Kennebunkport on Sunday night.

Bush has called Kennebunkport home every summer since he was a child, except during World War II when he served as a naval aviator. The Bushes reside in Houston for the winters.
