George H.W. Bush‘s casket arrived in Washington, D.C. on Monday from Texas. Then, he was placed in the Capitol Rotunda where he’d lie in rest until Wednesday morning.
At 10 a.m. EST on Wednesday, a motorcade moved the president to the National Cathedral. He’ll arrive at an invitation-only service at 11 a.m. and depart by 12:30 a.m. Four eulogies were delivered – from his son, former President George W. Bush, former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, former US Sen. Alan Simpson, and presidential historian Jon Meacham.
At 1:15 p.m. EST, the president’s casket will be taken back to Texas. This flight, on the presidential plane, will be called “Special Mission 41.” He’ll then go to St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston for a second service on Thursday. Sometime after he’ll be laid to rest at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library. He’ll be near his wife of 73-years, Barbara, and their daughter Robin, who died of leukemia in 1953 at age 3.
In the front row at the National Cathedral, president Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump sat with former presidents Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and Jimmy Carter, as well as their spouses. Trump and Obama shook hands.
Prince Charles of England, German Chancellor Angela Merkle, and Australian Governor-General Peter Cosgrove were also be in attendance. The full list of dignitaries included King Abdullah II and Queen Rania of Jordan, Polish President Andrzej Duda, former Polish President Lech Walesa, former Mexican President Carlos Salinas, former UK Prime Minister John Major and Norma Major, Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, prince of Bahrain and personal representative of the king of Bahrain, former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, former Emir of Qatar Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, former Portuguese President Anibal Vaco Silva, former Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, former Kuwaiti Prime Minister Nasser al-Mohammed al-Ahmed al-Sabah, and former Premier of Bermuda John Swan.

Children of presidents Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Clinton, and Lyndon B. Johnson will be in attendance as well. About 3,000 people are expected to be in attendance.
Before his death, Bush gave the Military District of Washington a 211-page document detailing his funeral arrangements. These ranged from the flying formations that should be used to the music that will be played. “Hail to the Chief” will be absent from the ceremony.
Jim McGrath, who was Bush’s spokesman, said on Twitter Tuesday, that after the former president was briefed on his funeral plans and lying in the state, he asked, “Do you think anyone will come?”
