George Clooney Meets With President Obama About Sudan

George Clooney is more than just a pretty face. The urbane actor met with President Obama Tuesday to discuss the urgent situation in the Sudan and appeared on Today to try to raise awareness about the issue.

"Cameras follow me wherever I go, so let's bring them to south Sudan and let them take pictures," he said, according to Global Post, of the reasons he's involved himself. "We can't just sit back. If we do nothing there's a good chance that hundreds of thousands of people would die, innocent people." Clooney, 49, recently returned from a trip to the Sudan and is urging the government to use "robust diplomacy" to head off the threat of civil war as the country prepares for elections in early January.

Clooney also visited with Senator Richard Lugar, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee."We've got 90 days to do this," the actor said. "This is also the responsibility of the international community." –AMY LEE
