The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards, held Sunday night in Los Angeles, were always going to be big for George Clooney, who was nominated both for Best Actor, for The Descendants, and Best Director, for The Ides of March. With girlfriend Stacy Keibler on his arm, Clooney looked as handsome — and happy — as ever on the red carpet. Who would have thought that Clooney also would upstaged host Ricky Gervais with some of the funniest lines of the night?

When introducing the film Moneyball, Clooney walked onto the stage sporting a cane similar to one Brad Pitt has been carrying since he injured himself on a ski slope on New Year's Eve. "I have to give it back to [Pitt]," he quipped. "He can't make it to the bar otherwise."

Later, while accepting the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama, Clooney was warm toward Pitt but turned his comedic sights on another fellow nominee, Shame's Michael Fassbender. "I would like to thank Michael Fassbender for taking over the frontal nude responsibly that I had," Clooney said, referring to Fassbender's frequent nudity in Shame. "Really Michael, honestly, you can play golf like this with your hands behind your back. Go for it man, do it!"
