George & Amal Clooney welcomed twins Ella and Alexander Tuesday morning.
The Clooneys released a comical statement statement with their joyous news – “This morning Amal and George welcomed Ella and Alexander Clooney into their lives. Ella, Alexander and Amal are all healthy, happy and doing fine. George is sedated and should recover in a few days,” the family joked.
Sources confirmed in February that the Oscar winner and the international human rights lawyer were expecting twins, and both George, 56, and Amal, 39, were very excited. “We are really happy and really excited,” George said at the time. “It’s going to be an adventure. We’ve sort of embraced it all… with arms wide open.”
Friend of the family Matt Damon said George told him privately on set of the news. “I was working with him last fall and he pulled me aside on set and I mean, I almost started crying. I was so happy for him,” he said.
The Clooneys wed in Venice in Sept. 2014 surrounded by loved ones, including a star-studded crowd of guests, including Damon, Cindy Crawford, Emily Blunt, and Bono.
Since word of the pregnancy broke out, Amal and George have kept relatively quiet. She made her first appearance following the news in late February, when she accompanied George to the 42nd Annual César Awards in Paris. In March, the high-profile attorney gave a speech at the United Nations calling for the Iraqi government to investigate crimes committed by ISIS.
