General Hospital star Kirsten Storms is currently recovering from brain surgery after her doctors discovered a cyst attached to the lower part of her brain.
Storms took to Instagram sharing videos wearing a large neck brace sitting next to her former General Hospital co-star and friend Emme Rylan in the passenger seat of a car. Storms seemed optimistic and joked about her appearance.
“Sorry for the shock you guys,” the former Disney Channel star said. “Em is taking care of me until I get to my at-home nurse. There really is no filter that’s going to make this better for me right now. I’ve not really spoken about this much or at all actually. Less than 48 hours ago, I had brain surgery, hence the neck brace. It was on the lower portion of my brain.”
Storms then clarified that she did not have cancer, and wanted to diffuse any rumors that may come out about her surgery.
“What they had to drain and remove was not cancer,” she said. “I want to clarify that right now before the internet goes crazy wild with rumors about this.”
Storms revealed for the past few years she’d been dealing with health issues that she associated with side effects of her medication or due to age. She then wrote her doctor suggested she undergo an MRI of the head “just to be on the safe side.”
“That’s when we stumbled upon a rather large, very full of fluid, cyst that was attached to the lower portion of the brain,” she shared. “I feel very fortunate that my situation wasn’t more serious and that I had a wonderful neurosurgeon who immediately knew how to fix it.”
Storms then expressed her apprehension about her surgery and the gratitude she has been surrounded by her loved ones.
“I’m not gonna lie, brain surgery had me nervous, but I’m immensely thankful to my family, friends, and incredible “work family” who have been supportive, kind and loving during a time when I’ve been feeling a lot of emotions,” Storms shared. “I’m excited to get back to it after my recovery.”
Storms has one daughter from her previous marriage with General Hospital star Brandon Barash. Days before her brain surgery, Storms shared a picture of her seven-year-old daughter Harper Rose Barash, captioning the photo, “Can I get a 🙌🏼 if snuggles are the BEST?!”
Storms rose to fame after starring in the Disney Channel movie Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century in 1999 when she was 14-years-old. The movie was followed by two sequels Zenon: The Zequel and Zenon: Z3.
