‘General Hospital’ Star Johnny Wactor Died In Co-Worker’s Arms After Shielding Her In Car Robbery

Johnny Wactor, a beloved actor known for his role on the popular soap opera General Hospital, died last week in a robbery gone wrong.

The incident occurred on May 25. In the aftermath, Wactor’s coworker and close friend, Anita Joy, shared a deeply personal and emotional tribute on Instagram.

According to Joy’s poignant account, the two were leaving their shift at the Level 8 dining and entertainment complex in downtown Los Angeles when they encountered a group attempting to steal a car part from Wactor’s vehicle. In a harrowing sequence of events, Wactor was fatally shot while trying to confront the would-be thieves.

“My friend of eight years went from laughing together, working side by side, leaving our bartending shift and walking to our cars, to him dying in my arms in the streets of DTLA in the dark hours of 3 a.m.,” she wrote. “Everything happened in an instant. I’ve come to describe it as a glass of water that gets tipped over, and you’re scrambling to grab it and save it from spilling out completely, but it just runs through your fingertips and is gone.”

Joy’s heartbreaking testimony paints a vivid picture of the chaos and desperation that unfolded as she desperately tried to administer first aid and keep Wactor alive. She expressed her profound gratitude for the Level 8 security guard, Bryan, who rushed to the scene and assisted in the frantic efforts to save Wactor’s life.

Despite the heroic attempts, the severity of Wactor’s wounds proved too much, and he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. In her tribute, Joy expressed her profound grief and anger over the senseless act of violence that claimed the life of her dear friend and colleague.

Wactor, known for his performances on General Hospital, was remembered by Joy as a man who possessed an unparalleled ability “to make anyone and everyone feel so special.” She noted that “he lit up any room” and “treated everyone with love, respect and compassion” no matter what. She wrote, “Absolutely one of the best men I’ve ever known. I’m so grateful to have been a part of his world and him, mine.”

Joy has called upon the public to assist Wactor’s grieving family, who reside on the opposite side of the country, in covering the emotional and financial burdens of bringing him home. She has also emphasized the need for improved safety measures, urging Level 8 to provide secure parking for its late-night staff to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
