Gavin Rossdale’s Ex Gay Lover Marilyn Robinson Comments On His Split From Gwen Stefani

Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani announced their divorce just last week, and now the Bush frontman’s former gay lover Marilyn Robinson is weighing in on the split.

Robinson, a London-based pop singer, had an affair with Rossdale before he met and later married Stefani. Though rumors had surrounded the pair’s close relationship for years, it wasn’t until 2010 that Rossdale casually confirmed the rumors, chalking up the intimate relationship with Robinson to youthful experimentation. “You’re learning about life. It’s a part of growing up. That’s it. No more, no less,” Rossdale told Details, adding when asked if it was just a one-time thing, “Yeah. That was it. You have to know what you like, and I know what I like.”

Now that Rossdale and Stefani are divorcing after 13 years of marriage, there’s been some speculation that Robinson could have played a part in their breakup.

“I’m getting kind of the gist that people want me to be somehow to blame for the marriage split and that’s just not true,” Robinson told Entertainment Tonight. “I love Gavin. I’ve always loved Gavin. I want him to be happy and Gwen to be happy and the kids to be happy.”

Though Robinson never really spoke to Stefani – not even at her wedding with Rossdale, which he attended – he believes that she had to have known about his past relationship with her husband. What Stefani might not have known, however, was that Robinson and Rossdale chatted on the phone not long before the divorce went public

“We discussed lot of different things. He was frustrated and kind of upset. Which makes absolute sense, really. Due to the recent revelations from the divorce and everything, it all makes sense now,” Robinson said of the talk, though he wouldn’t speculate on what caused the split. “What goes on in their house and in their marriage is between them. At the end of the day it’s speculation.”

In addition to the revelation about Robinson that came out during Stefani and Rossdale’s marriage was Courtney Love‘s claim that she had slept with the musician while he was dating Stefani in the 90s. “He was such an Adonis in his day! He got good in bed … something happened. Maybe Gwen taught him, for all I know,” Love told Howard Stern in 2010, further revealing, “Yes, [Gwen] does know.”

Stefani and Rossdale wed in September 2002 after seven years of dating. Together, they are parents to three sons – Kingston, 9, Zuma, 6, Apollo, 17 months.
