Gary Sinise’s Son, McCanna Anthony ‘Mac’ Sinise, Dies At 33 After Cancer Battle

On Tuesday, actor Gary Sinise announced on the Gary Sinise Foundation’s website and Instagram page that his son, McCanna Anthony “Mac” Sinise, died at the age of 33. Mac lost his battle with cancer on January 5.

Mac was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer called Chordoma on August 8, 2018. Chordoma is a disease that originates in the spine and affects a small number of individuals in the United States each year. Despite multiple spine surgeries between 2018 and 2020, Mac’s condition worsened over time and left him paralyzed from the chest down. Mac’s disease posed significant challenges, but he faced them with grace, courage and love.

Mac’s death came shortly after he became an assistant manager of education and outreach at the Gary Sinise Foundation, a charity dedicated to supporting military members, veterans, first responders and their families. Additionally, Mac was an exceptional drummer with 24 years of experience, and had performed alongside his father in Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band.

Mac also studied songwriting and composition while he attended the University of Southern California. Despite his physical limitations, Mac and his collaborators managed to create an album titled Resurrection & Revival, which was released the same week he passed away.

In a statement, Sinise expressed his pride in being Mac’s father and highlighted Mac’s resilience and determination throughout his battle with cancer. He extended his condolences to others who have experienced similar losses. Sinise emphasized that Mac’s fight against an incurable cancer was an inspiration to all who knew him and mentioned that the family is ensuring Mac’s album, Mac Sinise: Resurrection and Revival, is released and pressed on vinyl.
