Gary Carter's Health Worsens

In May of last year, former Mets catcher and Hall of Famer Gary Carter, 57, was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, a type of aggressive brain cancer, and now it appears that multiple tumors have been found on his brain.

Carter started undergoing chemotherapy and radiation for the inoperable cancer after his initial diagnosis, and the news about the progression of his illness comes from his daughter, Kimmy Bloemers, who wrote about her father's worsening condition on the family blog.

"I write these words with tears because I am so sad for my dad," Bloemers wrote. She also mentioned that one of the doctors treating Carter would be visiting him Thursday evening "to talk to the family about the next step."

The sportsman, whose 19-year career won him three Gold Glove and five Silver Slugger awards, is having a tough go of it. "Every day is exhausting and every move takes great effort," Bloemers wrote.
