Garth Brooks, currently the highest-paid country musician, has decided to give some money back to the fans or, at least, to two fans in particular. After a man proposed to his now-fiancé during Brook’s performance of his song “Unanswered Prayers” in Oklahoma City on Saturday night, the country star offered to pay fort their honeymoon, but only if the couple wanted to go to Hawaii.
Identified by Oklahoma’s WFAA-TV as Drew Bargsley and Chelsea Townsend, the couple seemed more than happy to accept after interrupting the concert and distracting Brooks.
“When you shut down the ENTIRE GARTH CONCERT proposing to the love of your life … oops,” Bargsley wrote in a Facebook post after the event.
A video posted to Facebook by user Amanda Canseco Littlejohn shows the entire interaction at the Chesapeake Energy Arena. Brooks asks if there is a date set, to which the couple says no. Than he asks if they have a location set, to which Townsend replies, “no idea.”
“Well, I’ll tell you what,” Brooks began, “If you pick Hawaii, Trisha and I will pay for it.” The crowd began to cheer as Townsend appeared to say, “We’ll go!”
After offering the gift, Brooks jokingly checked if anyone else in the crowd was getting engaged.
The “Trisha” Brooks was referring to was Trisha Yearwood, a country music singer, Food Network personality, and his wife of 12 years. Yearwood later came onto the stage and gave the couple her blessing.
“Congratulations. But nobody else can get engaged tonight,” Yearwood joked.
Brooks and Yearwood live in Oklahoma, where the concert was held, most of the year.
