Gareth Pursehouse, Man Charged With Killing Ex Amie Harwick, Was Released On $2MM Bail Hours Before Murder
Amie Harwick’s ex boyfriend and alleged killer, Gareth Pursehouse, has been re-arrested and charged with murder.
Harwick, the former model and licensed therapist, was found on unresponsive on the ground below a third story balcony on February 15. When officers arrived at the scene, Harwick’s roommate allegedly told police that Harwick was being assaulted by Pursehouse. Harwick was taken to a hospital where she died of blunt force injuries to her head and torso.
“She suffered significant injuries consistent with a fall,” police said in the press release.
The Los Angeles Medical Examiner Public Information Officer announced that in addition to the blunt force trauma, there was also “evidence of a manual strangulation,” and Harwick’s death has been ruled a homicide.
Pursehouse had originally been released from jail on February 18 after posting a $2 million bond.
Less than 24 hours later, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, Pursehouse was re-arrested on a no bail warrant. The 41-year-old has been charged with one count each of murder and first-degree residential burglary.
Harwick, 38, was granted two restraining orders against Pursehouse before her death.
Ex-fiancé Drew Carey, 61, told People, “Amie and I had a love that people are lucky to have once in a lifetime. She was a positive force in the world, a tireless and unapologetic champion for women, and passionate about her work as a therapist. I am overcome with grief. I would like to thank you in advancing for giving myself and everyone who loved Amie privacy while we try to work through this tragic situation.”
Carey posted a link to the petition, “Justice 4 Amie” on his Twitter account that aims to update laws for victims of domestic violence.
