Game of Thrones‘ fifth season promises more shocking deaths, as characters that have survived thus far in the books will be meeting their ends.
George R. R. Martin, who penned the Song of Ice and Fire novels that the HBO series is based on, revealed the deaths added to the plot over the weekend.
“People are going to die who don’t die in the books, so even the book readers will be unhappy. Everybody better be on their toes,” Martin told Showbiz 411 at the Writers Guild West Awards Saturday. “[Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] are even bloodier than I am.”
Back in December, Sophia Turner, who plays Sansa Stark on the series, hinted that she plays some part in a “super traumatic” scene, which could include one of the deaths Martin was referencing.
“There was one scene that I did do which was super, super traumatic, and I love doing those scenes,” Turner revealed during a red carpet interview at the British Independent Film Awards. “It was just really kind of horrible for everyone to be on set and watch.”
As for the season as a whole, Turner added, “There’s some massive moments, perhaps even more shocking than the Red Wedding.”
The trailer for Game of Thrones’ upcoming season also suggests that more tragedy and bloodshed will be coming to the Seven Kingdoms.
