Game of Thrones has finally released the season seven premiere date, and it is July 16, 2017.
HBO released the date via Facebook Live, but the stream was fraught with difficulty, and had to be restarted twice. In it, there appeared a block of ice that was slowly melted by flames (get it? A Song of Ice and Fire?) until a sign bearing the date was revealed.
Posters for the new season were released earlier in the day as well. The theme was the same, ice meeting fire, which is telling for the new season. It is expected that Daenerys and her dragons will finally cross the sea into Westeros, mixing fire with ice. Or perhaps Daenerys and Jon Snow will finally team up.
The teaser consisted of dark gray stone figures, each representing one of the houses of the show. In the background, we hear snippets of audio, from Cersei being crowned Queen to a man warning of the war coming from beyond the wall. As it ends, the stone figures break and disintegrate.
