Game of Thrones “Kill the Boy” featured young leaders Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) at a crossroads in their respective commands and forced to make risky decisions for the future.

Game of Thrones Recap

Mereen: Last week, the final scenes in Mereen showed the back alley sword fight in which Grey Worm and Ser Barristan Selmy teamed up to take out the Sons of the Harpy, but not before falling to the ground themselves. As it turns out, Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson) survived his injuries and is recovering while Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) stands over him. Meanwhile, Dany pays her respects Barristan the Bold, sharing with Daario (Michiel Huisman) her grief over losing him. Daario suggests that they scour the streets for the Sons of the Harpy, but Dany tells him she preferred his other idea. At that, she summons all of heads of all of Mereen’s great families. Once she has them all together, she introduces them to her dragons. One head meets his end in the dungeon, leading Hizdahr zo Loraq (Joel Fry), in a moment of pretend bravery, to say, ” All men must die.” Fortunately for him, Dany doesn’t plan on killing anyone else – yet.

Regaining consciousness, Grey Worm opens his eyes to see Missandei. He tells her that he is ashamed. He is ashamed because he was afraid when it seemed certain that he was going to die. Specifically, he was afraid he’d never see Missandei again. Missandei goes to Dany to report back about Grey Worm, and gets asked for her advice about how to move forward. Missandei claims she is not worthy of offering advice, but suggests Dany seek out a third, creative option. After their conversation, Dany goes to apologize to Hizdahr. She tells him that he was right about tradition and promises that she will reopen the fighting pits to free men. The final part of her plan is to marry a head of one of the local families and proposes that it be him.

Castleblack: After Maester Aemon (Peter Vaughan) listens to a report on Dany from Sam (John Bradley), Jon seeks his council about taking a bold step that many men of the Night’s Watch will be adamantly against. “Kill the boy Jon Snow. Winter is almost upon us,” Aemon tells him, urging him to act the man in his new role. Taking Aemon’s advice, Jon heads straight to Tormund (Kristofer Hivju) to try to get him to lead the wildlings, bring them south of the wall and encourage them to fight with the Night’s Watch when winter comes. Jon ultimately convinces him that it will be best for his people to come south, but Tormund has one condition – that Jon come along with him to fetch the wildlings. When Jon shares his plan with his men, they’re far from pleased.

In Maester Aemon’s library, Gilly (Hannah Murray) asks Sam about the books, wondering if it’s the largest library in the world. Sam tells her that the largest library is actually at The Citadel in Old Town, where maesters study. Sam knows a great deal about The Citadel, as he used to want to be a maeseter. Before the chat can go any further, Stannis (Stephen Dillane) visits Sam. Stannis starts the conversation with talk of Sam’s father Randall, whose army defeated Robert many years ago, and then gets to the real matter – White Walkers. Stannis wants to know how Sam fended one off, so Sam reveals that it was dragonglass (obsidian) that got the job done. Thankful for Sam’s information, Stannis goes to find Davos to tell him it’s time to head south through Winterfell.

Winterfell: Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) and Podrick (Daniel Portman), not knowing how they might be able to keep Sansa (Sophie Turner) safe, end up passing along a message telling her what she should do if she’s ever in trouble. Sansa receives the message from a lady’s maid, while her betrothed Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Theon) finds out that his mistress is jealous that he’s to marry the Stark girl. The mistress, Miranda, who is the kennel master’s daughter, later introduces herself to Sansa and brings her to the kennel. Miranda encourages her to go to the very end of the kennel, where she finds Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen).

While serving Ramsay, Theon is forced to confess that Sansa saw him at the kennels. He fears severe punishment, but Ramsay forgives him. Ramsay, as it turns out, was waiting to inflict a more emotional punishment on the man he calls Reek. At dinner, Ramsay forces Theon to apologize to Sansa for murdering her two young brothers and then tells him that he will be the one to give Sansa away at the wedding. Also at the dinner was Roose Bolton (Michael McElhatton) and his wife Wanda Frey, who Roose says is now pregnant. In a discussion with Ramsay later, Roose chastises him for bringng Reek in front of Sansa. He then tells Ramsay that he was born out of rape and that he’d considered killing his mother afterwards. He also considered killing the baby she bore until he could see clearly that he was his son. Upon hearing the story, Ramsay gladly accepts his father’s request that he help him defeat Stannis.

Valyria: Rowing along the Narrow Sea, Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) asks Jorah (Iain Glen) once more for some wine, but gets distracted when he realizes that they are going to travel through Valyria, the abandoned city that was the home of the Targaryens many many years ago. As they approach the gates, they philosophize about civilizations and then look up in awe as a dragon flies overhead. they spot a dragon flying overhead. While the dragon proves harmless, the stone men they encounter are considerably less so. Jorah warns Tyrion not to let any touch him as he tries to fend them all off. Trying to escape one, Tyrion throws himself overboard. Jorah saves him from drowning, but not before catching the grayscale from the stone men himself.
