‘Game Of Thrones’ Fans Demand A Remake Of Season 8 For Tenth Anniversary Of Show

Following HBO’s heavy promotion of the month-long ten year anniversary celebration for the immensely popular fantasy series Game of Thrones, many fans have been demanding a remake of the eighth and final season of the show, which many people found to be disappointing. Based on the book series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones has been one of the most popular and influential television series to air in the 2010s. The pilot episode of Game of Thrones first premiered on April 17, 2011 and was a smash hit for HBO. The final episode of the series aired on May 19, 2019.

In stark contrast to the first seven seasons of the show, the final season of Game of Thrones was mainly divisive with both fans and critics. Many fans complained about the rushed pacing, unsatisfying ending, lack of payoff with the White Walker threat and the derailment of characters like Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), who fans felt were abruptly stripped of their likable qualities and character development by the end of the season. The ten-year anniversary for the series has proven to be less than successful as HBO might have hoped, with most fans showing little interest in the show’s celebration.

Now, many fans have gone on social media to demand a remake of the eighth season in honor of the show’s tenth anniversary. While some have argued that a remake of the final season would be impossible, a number of fans have compared this to the release of Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League, which grew into a large movement starting in 2017 until it was finally released on the streaming service HBO Max on March 18. It remains to be seen if HBO will give into the request of remaking the final season of Game of Thrones. However, it seems unlikely due to the fact that most of the cast and crew has moved on from the show and do not have much a reason to come back.

While it is rather unlikely that fans who were disappointed with the show’s ending will see a remake of the final season, the tenth anniversary celebration of Game of Thrones will nevertheless continue until April 30.
