FX has placed a pilot order for a Sons of Anarchy spin-off. The project’s name is Mayans MC and will be headed by Kurt Sutter, according to reports on Friday.
The new show will take place after the events of the Sons of Anarchy finale and focus on the motorcycle club’s rivals, the Mayans. In the original show, the California-based Mayans sold heroin, and in Mayans MC, one of the members, EZ Reyes will battle with his desire for revenge against a drug cartel and his need for the women in his life to respect him.
Sutter hasn’t ruled out the possibility of characters from the original drama appearing in Mayans MC. The spin-off reportedly won’t have an impact on the rumored Sons prequel Sutter has previously said he wants to pursue.
Last year, Sutter pulled the plug on his first post-Sons of Anarchy drama, The Bastard Executioner, due to low ratings.
Mayans MC will be shooting its pilot episode in March, with Sutter directing and co-writing the script with Elgin James.
Sons of Anarchy ended in 2014 after a seven season run.
