Frozen 2 is coming in 2019, and #GiveElsaAGirlfriend might be coming too.

Since Frozens debut there has been a growing campaign to get Elsa a girlfriend. Members and allies of the LBGTQ community have marked her award-winning song “Let It Go” as a coming out number and believe if anyone should get to have a Disney girlfriend, it’s Elsa.

The voice of Elsa, Idina Menzel, thinks “it’s a wonderful idea.” The discussion about a gay Disney princess is something she supports. “[It’s] a wonderful conversation that we should all have about whether a Disney princess or queen could be gay,” she said.

Jennifer Lee, the writer and co-director of Frozen, spoke with HuffPost about the possibility of Elsa having a girlfriend. “Where we’re going with it, we have tons of conversations about it, and we’re really conscientious about these things,” she said. “For me… Elsa’s every day telling me where she needs to go, and she’ll continue to tell us. I always write from character – out, and where Elsa is and what Elsa’s doing in her life, she’s telling me every day. We’ll see where we go.”

Unsurprisingly there were reactions to the possibility of Elsa having a girlfriend have been very mixed.

Frozen 2 is set to release Nov. 27, 2019.
