Free Agents Albert Haynesworth, Reggie Bush Go to Patriots, Dolphins

Since the NFL lockdown officially ended on Monday, player trades have already started to rock the offseason. While a trade of running back Reggie Bush by the New Orleans Saints to the Miami Dolphins didn't raise any eyebrows, people were less prepared to hear that the New England Patriots are acquiring the notoriously difficult Albert Haynesworth as their defensive lineman from the Washington Redskins. In return, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan gets fifth-round draft pick in 2013 from Patriots coach Bill Belichick, who seems to value talent over drive on the field.

Other shocks that come at the free agent period involve the Minnesota Vikings' trade of wide receiver Sidney Rice to the Seattle Seahawks, in exchange for Donovan McNabb. Other fates hang in the balance, mainly the question of what will happen to Tennessee Titans receiver Randy Moss, who at 34 years old, has a shelf life, but still commands an intimidating presence on the field. Rumor has it that the Baltimore Ravens have been contemplating a Moss acquisition, and that the New York Jets may find Moss to be a highly desirable option, especially if they're unable to hold onto Braylon Edwards through the end of the free agent period. Moss would help compensate for a Jets' Edwards loss, which could leave them too reliant on the talents of wide receiver Santonio Holmes, who resigned with the New York team.

As things stand, however, the Jets appear to be putting Moss on the back burner, preferring to romance cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, who currently plays for the Oakland Raiders. Asomugha is in high demand in general, as he is also being hotly pursued by the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Giants.
