LAS VEGAS, NV - MAY 14: O.J. Simpson appears during a break in an evidentiary hearing in Clark County District Court on May 14, 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Simpson, who is currently serving a nine-to-33-year sentence in state prison as a result of his October 2008 conviction for armed robbery and kidnapping charges, is using a writ of habeas corpus to seek a new trial, claiming he had such bad representation that his conviction should be reversed. OJ Simpson reportedly owes Fred Goldman almost $100 million now because of accrued interest around his 1997 judgment in the killing of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson in California.
Despite being acquitted in his criminal trial, Goldman was awarded a $33.5 million judgment expected to be paid by Simpson, but he has only paid in small amounts according to Goldman’s recent court filings.
Goldman said in 2015 that Simpson hadn’t been paying much of his judgment off, and thanks to interest the amount he owed had ballooned to $57 million. Now that Simpson is out of prison for armed robbery and kidnapping charges he was convicted of in 2008, Goldman said he should be able to make money and have the ability to be paying off the judgment.
In 2000, Simpson moved to Florida in a maneuver that was allegedly intended to avoid payment responsibilities in the liability judgment. Simpson currently lives in Las Vegas, Nevada.
