On what would have Kurt Cobain’s 50th birthday, his daughter Frances Bean Cobain wrote a touching tribute on Instagram.
She hand wrote a note and took a photo. “Today would have been your 50th Birthday,” she wrote. “You are loved and you are missed. Thank you for giving me the GIFT of life. Forever your Daughter, Frances Bean Cobain.”
Frances Bean was just a baby when her father overdosed and died at age 27, on April 6, 1994. Cobain was the frontman for grunge band Nirvana in the 1990s, and was entangled in a complicated love affair with Courtney Love. Many blame her for Cobain’s untimely death.
Frances Bean, it was recently announced, will be the new face of the Marc Jacobs Spring 2017 ad campaign. Her father undoubtedly influenced the Marc Jacobs Spring 1993 grunge collection, so the choice is fitting.
The Marc Jacobs Instagram account also posted a tribute to Kurt Cobain to their page today. It was a photo of Kurt holding his daughter, both yawning, on his lap, as he dons a shirt that reads “grunge is dead.”
