Fox gave fans a look at Empire’s new season on Wednesday by releasing the hit series first trailer.
Fox’s Empire broke out in January as one of the most-watched dramas on network television. Fans were excited to learn that the popular hip-hop drama would be returning for an 18 episode season, after only airing 12 episodes during its first.
Season one ended with Lucious (Terrence Howard) officially naming Jamal (Jussie Smollett) the successor CEO of Empire Entertainment. Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) tried to pull off a hostile takeover with Hakeem (Bryshere Gray), Andre (Trai Byers) and Anika (Grace Gealy), while Agent Carter (Nealla Gordon) wanted Cookie to reveal Lucious’ involvement in Bunkie’s (Antoine McKay) murder. Vernon (Malik Yoba) attempted to make amends with Andre, but they got into a fight that concluded with Vernon’s death. Lastly, as Lucious prepared to perform at his legacy concert, he was arrested for allegedly killing Bunkie. It was revealed that Vernon was Agent Carter’s star witness in Lucious arrest.
The season two trailer makes some big promises: “New music, New money, New power, New empire.”
Set to a new recorded song by Smollett, the promo teases Hakeem and Jamal in the studio working on new tracks and performing at a “Free Lucious” Concert. Andre in his business suit strolls the halls of Empire Entertainment. Anika still appears to be along for the ride. Cookie locked in cage and Lucious donned in his jailhouse orange jumpsuit.
Looks like Season 2 is going to be another roller-coaster ride. Check out the Season 2 promo for yourself:
