Former TV news anchor Heather Unruh has accused Kevin Spacey of sexually assaulting her then-18-year-old son.
This allegation joins more than a dozen others, claiming Spacey sexually assaulted, harassed, groped, or attempted to rape various men. Since Anthony Rapp came forward and said Spacey tried to seduce him when he was just 14-years-old and Spacey was 26, many more voices have been added to the conversation.
Now, Unruh alleged at a press conference that the Academy Award winning actor assaulted her son. They were both in a bay in Nantucket in July 2016 when she claims Spacey put his hand down her son’s pants and grabbed his genitals. She says Spacey then urged the boy to accompany him to a private afterparty, but a bystander stepped in and asked if the young man was ok. When he said he was not, she told him to run and he did.
“Nothing could’ve prepared my son for how that sexual assault would make him feel as a man,” Unruh said. “It harmed him and it cannot be undone.” The anchor appeared with attorney Mitchell Garabedian, who has represented victims of clergy sexual abuse in the past. Spacey’s reps have not responded to this claim, nor the dozens of others.
Spacey did, however, respond to Rapp’s initial allegation, admitting that he did not remember the incident, but that if it did happen, he would chalk it up to “deeply inappropriate drunken behavior.” In the same semi-apology, Spacey came out as gay, a move that triggered ire in many.
