Former Trump Prosecutor Nathan Wade Discusses Controversial Relationship With D.A. Fani Willis In Bizarre Interview

Nathan Wade, the former special prosecutor removed from the high-profile Donald Trump case in Fulton County, Georgia, addressed his controversial relationship with District Attorney Fani Willis in an unusual and provocative interview on The Daily Show.

The interview, which aired on Tuesday, featured comedian Marlon Wayans playing a fictional character named Quon, who adopted a style reminiscent of Sacha Baron Cohen‘s Borat. Throughout the segment, Wade attempted to maintain a professional demeanor while fielding increasingly suggestive questions about his romantic involvement with Willis.

Wade emphasized the professional nature of their relationship, stating, “D.A. Willis is a respectable mother, a brilliant legal mind. We spent countless hours preparing this case, investigating this case.” However, Quon persistently made suggestive comments and gestures, pushing the boundaries of decorum and eliciting uncomfortable laughter from Wade.

The former prosecutor insisted that Willis was “more analogous to a client” than a boss, and when pressed about his performance, Wade stated, “I did my job.” This response came amid a barrage of provocative innuendos from the host.

Wade faced criticism online for participating in an interview where Wayans made some questionable comments. At one point, Wayans asked Wade about his partner’s attractiveness. Wade generally responded to Wayans’ remarks with laughter, mirroring the live audience’s reaction. While the exchange was offensive in a different context, the comedic setting made it more acceptable to those present.

The controversy surrounding Wade and Willis’s relationship came to light earlier this year, leading to a series of public hearings to determine whether their involvement constituted a conflict of interest in the Trump case. Wade testified that their relationship began around March 2022 and ended in the summer of 2023, maintaining that there was no personal involvement before his appointment to the case in November 2021.

As a result of the scrutiny, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee ruled that Willis could continue overseeing the case only if Wade stepped down from his position. Since his resignation, Wade has participated in several television interviews discussing the relationship.

Willis recently won renomination for the D.A.’s job by an overwhelming vote, but a Georgia appeals court is reviewing Judge McAfee’s decision.
