Bradley Coleman was shot to death at the age of 29 in a Quik Trip parking lot near Atlanta, Georgia when a group of people tried to steal his car. Coleman was a football player for Southern University.
Police say Coleman was approached by three people in a four-door passenger vehicle while filling his own car tires with air. He fought with two of them as one entered his driver’s seat and attempted to drive away. After struggling to get Coleman’s vehicle out of the parking lot, one of the suspects shot him and fled in their original car.
By the time police arrived, Coleman had died and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities released a description of the alleged incident this week but have not arrested any suspects yet.
Coleman’s alma mater Southern University released a statement. in response to the news, saying the athletic department, “offers our sincere condolences to the family, loved ones and teammates of Bradley Coleman, former Jaguar wide receiver from 2012-2016.”
Shahid Mitchell, who was a teammate of Coleman’s at Norcross High School, told 11alive Coleman was “a leader guiding people in the right direction. He was funny, energetic and just motivational.”
Coleman had been coaching high school football and basketball in Georgia and was also in the process of launching a fashion company in Louisiana.
