Former NBA Star Delonte West Arrested For Trespassing After Suffering Overdose In June

Delonte West was arrested for trespassing on Nov. 2 by the Fairfax County, Virginia, Police Department.

A local resident provided video evidence supporting a complaint that West had entered a restricted area in Huntington, Virginia, where he is banned from accessing certain locations, according to the FCPD.

The 41-year-old former NBA player was taken into custody around 8:48 p.m. near the Huntington Metro station, following a warrant issued the previous day.

Held on a $1,000 bond, West was released from custody on Nov. 3.

West, who played eight seasons across four teams, now faces a misdemeanor charge with a court date set for January.

The recent arrest adds to his involvement in a series of legal troubles in recent years. Despite earning $16 million over his NBA career, where he averaged 9.7 points and 3.6 assists per game, West continued to struggle with mental health and substance abuse issues.

In June, West had to be revived after a medical emergency following another Virginia arrest, where he was accused of violating the conditions of his release and resisting officers.

In June, West was revived after a medical emergency involving a suspected opioid overdose during an arrest in Virginia. He reportedly violated the terms of his release and resisted officers, ultimately fleeing before being found unresponsive.

Narcan was administered, and West was later seen in a video stumbling in a parking lot in Arlington, Virginia.

West’s history of challenges dates back several years. In 2021, he was found wandering outside a 7-Eleven, leading to an arrest for disorderly intoxication and resisting arrest without violence.

In 2016, he was spotted panhandling in Washington, D.C., and, at another point, seen publicly in a hospital gown in Houston.

In September 2020, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban intervened to help West enter rehab. However, West was arrested again in October 2021 in Boynton Beach, Florida, after allegedly banging on the doors of a police station with an open can of beer and a bottle of vodka.

West, who was selected 24th overall by the Boston Celtics in the 2004 NBA Draft, last played in the NBA for the Mavericks in the 2011-12 season after stints with the Celtics, Cavaliers, and the now-defunct Seattle SuperSonics.
