Former My Chemical Romance Drummer Bob Bryar Dies At 44

Bob Bryar, former drummer of My Chemical Romance, has died at the age of 44. Bryar was found deceased at his Tennessee home on Nov. 26.

Law enforcement sources told the outlet that he was last seen alive on November 4, and a medical examiner is investigating the cause and manner of death.

A representative for My Chemical Romance said, “The band asks for your patience and understanding as they process the news of Bob’s passing.”

Bryar, born in Chicago in 1979, joined My Chemical Romance in 2004, shortly after the release of their breakthrough album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. He replaced original drummer Matt Pelissier and played on the band’s acclaimed 2006 album The Black Parade as well as contributing to material for 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. He departed the band in 2010.

His entry into the band came after studying sound engineering at the University of Florida and working as a sound engineer for bands like Thrice and The Used.

During My Chemical Romance’s 2004 tour with The Used, Bryar developed a friendship with the band, eventually leading to his recruitment.

Following Bryar’s exit, rhythm guitarist Frank Iero wrote in a blog post, “As of four weeks ago, My Chemical Romance and Bob Bryar parted ways. This was a painful decision for all of us to make and was not taken lightly.”

“We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours, and expect you all to do the same,” he added.

My Chemical Romance, formed in 2001, consists of Gerard Way, Ray Toro, Mikey Way and Iero. The band is scheduled to begin a 10-city stadium tour next year, starting in Seattle on July 11.
