Former Price Is Right model Brandi Cochran, 41, has been awarded $7 million in punitive damages after suing the producers of the CBS game show for wrongful termination
Cochran was a model on the show from 2003 to 2008. A 2010 complaint she filed accuses producers of mistreatment during her pregnancy. She alleged that one producer put his hands on has head while another said, “Wide load coming through,” as she walked by. Cochran suffered complications from the pregnancy and had to go on disability. Before she could come back to work, she had been fired.
The jury’s decision to award punitive damages is in addition to the approximately $777,000 she won for compensatory damages. Price Is Right's producer Fremantle Media strongly disagreed with the decision. “We believe the verdict in this case was the result of a flawed process in which the court, among other things, refused to allow the jury to hear and consider that 40 percent of our models have been pregnant and other important evidence to our defense," producers said in a statement. "We expect to be fully vindicated after the matter has been reviewed and stand behind executive producer Mike Richards and the staff of The Price is Right."
