Former Rep. George Santos (R-New York) is reviving his drag persona Kitara Ravache in the latest cash grab.
The openly gay GOP member announced on Monday that he was bringing “Kitara out of the closet after 18 years.” The decision came after Santos raised $0 in donations for his independent campaign for a seat in Congress and withdrew from the race.
After Santos was ousted from Congress in December 2023, the former representative began offering videos on the app Cameo to raise money. Cameo is a platform where people can pay for personalized videos from celebrities and other notable public figures.
Videos from Kitara Ravache are priced at $350. Santos claimed 20% of proceeds would go to Tunnel2Towers and pro-Israel organization The Fellowship. However, Santos has a history of lying about where his funds go. Santos faces 23 counts of wire fraud and identity theft, among numerous financial crimes charges.
In January 2023, Santos confirmed he did drag after old photos of him resurfaced.
“No, I was not a drag queen in Brazil, guys. I was young, and I had fun at a festival. Sue me for having a life.”
When Santos was expelled from Congress, Saturday Night Live mocked the former representative’s departure. Comedian Bowen Yang dressed up as Santo’s drag persona in the segment, wearing a sparkly red ensemble and black wig.
