Marion Barber III, the former Dallas Cowboys running back, was arrested yesterday in Texas.
Barber, 31, was arrested after 8 p.m. Saturday night, reported TMZ. Police records show that the standout athlete was being held in police custody for “mental detention and observation.”
The incident that led to the arrest reportedly occurred at a church near Barber’s home, though the details of the incident are not yet known. Barber was arrested at his home following the event, according to TMZ.
Barber ran the ball for the Cowboys for six seasons before playing his final season in the NFL with the Chicago Bears. During his time with the Cowboys, Barber put up a number of seasons with more than 900 yards. In 2006, he racked up an impressive total of 14 touchdowns.
When he stepped away from the sport, Barber had amassed almost 4,800 rushing yards and 59 touchdowns. He also had picked up 1,300 receiving yards.
