The much-scorned winner of this last season’s BacheloretteDevin Strader, was reportedly arrested and given a restraining order from an ex-girlfriend prior to his time on the show.

Many were furious with this last season of the reality show, in which Jenn Tran, the first Asian-American bachelorette, was brutally snubbed by Strader (and the producers) following her decision with the final rose. In the season’s finale, Tran and Strader were forced to recount their failed proposal in front of a live studio audience, and Tran exposed Strader for breaking up with her over a 15-minute phone call.

Strader was arrested in 2017 in association with robbing his former girlfriend’s home. Strader was charged with a single felony count of “simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling.” Strader’s ex said that on March 19, 2017, her Louisiana apartment was broken into, and a diamond necklace he gave her was stolen.

Strader’s ex also said that Strader had come around her house several times, “banging on the door” and “screaming at her.” The harassment caused her to file a restraining order. In the details of the protection order, Strader’s ex further detailed how Strader “spat on me and threw his drink on me at Pelicans game in front of everyone in the crowd” as well as “put[ting] me in a chokehold covering my mouth.”

Strader pleaded guilty to criminal trespass and simple criminal damage to property worth less than $500.

After the conclusion of their Bachelorette season, in response to his final live conversation with Tran, Strader posted a 13-minute long video explaining his side of things to Instagram on September 10.

Strader said, “By no means am I looking to denounce Jenn in any way… All I’m trying to do here is show this was a two-way relationship, and I think we could both be held accountable.”

In an attempt to share his side of the story, Strader published hundreds of call logs and texts between him and Tran, which included information about couples therapy sessions and other intimate content that Strader later omitted in a re-posted version of the video. He commented beneath the post,  “The original post has been altered in order to respect sensitive information that was unintentionally shared. I wish nothing more than to take accountability going forward & move on with my life. Thank you.”

Tran debuts on Dancing with the Stars this season.
