After a four-year hiatus, frontman Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters are set to release their seventh studio album, Wasting Light, on April 12, and they're making sure that their fans' appetites are whetted.
The band debuted their first single from the album, "Rope," on Wednesday. Earlier this month, they released a promo clip of another track from the album, the hardcore "White Limo." "Rope" takes them a little closer to their rock roots, however, and makes a solid choice for the album's first single.
When it came to recording the album, the band went old school. "I literally backed the minivan out of the garage, pulled the lawnmower out, put a drum set in it and set up mics," Grohl told Spin. "We soundproofed the garage door so that my neighbors wouldn't call the f***ing cops."
More than that, Grohl worked on the album with his old bandmate from Nirvana, Krist Novoselic, as well as Butch Vig, the producer of Nirvana's genre-changing Nevermind. Grohl had a lot to say on the topic of returning to the past. "Going back to make an album with a producer you've worked with before is not unlike going back and f***ing a girlfriend you had 20 years ago. It can either be really good or a total f***ing disaster."
