Foo Fighters Drummer Taylor Hawkins, 50, Found Dead In Bogota Hotel Room

The Foo Fighters’ longtime, charismatic drummer, Taylor Hawkins, has died at the age of 50.

Hawkins was found dead in a hotel room in the north of Bogota, Colombia, where the band was due to play at the Picnic Stereo Festival on Friday night.

Taylor Hawkins Cause Of Death

“Colombian authorities found: an empty beer can, an opened bottle of vodka, a Coca-Cola bottle, and some ‘other articles’ being analyzed by authorities,” prominent Colombian journalist Luis Carlos Velez reported.

National newspaper El Tiempo has also reported similar news that the authorities “found hallucinogenic drugs” but “no signs of violence in the luxury hotel room.”

Hawkins, an electrifying performer with a stage presence projected from behind his drum kit, had a history of known drug use. He overdosed on heroin in 2001 and spent a week in a coma, just four years after joining the Foo Fighters.

The Foo Fighters tweeted on Saturday night, saying, “The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.”

Shortly after the tragic announcement, the band backed out of its scheduled Friday performance at the Picnic Stereo Festival in Bogotá, Colombia. The band recently played Lollapalooza Chile on March 18 and Lollapalooza Argentina on March 20. They are slated to headline Lollapalooza Brasil on Sunday.

“The world of music and Bogota are in mourning over the death of the great Taylor Hawkins,” Bogota Mayor Claudia Lopez said in a release. “To his family and friends, to the Foo Fighters and all of his fans we send a hug and condolences.”

“The cause of death has yet to be established,” police cautioned.
