Florida Rep. Cory Mills, Considered As Potential Trump V.P., Under Investigation By D.C. Police For Allegedly Assaulting His Girlfriend
Rep. Cory Mills (R-Florida) has been placed under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia for allegedly assaulting a woman.
The accusation is simple assault, a misdemeanor in the District of Columbia. The incident happened at 1:19 p.m. on Feb. 19 at Mills’ luxury penthouse in D.C., an incident report declares. The report states that the victim, Sarah Raviani, listed Mills’ address as her home.
D.C. police are conducting an internal affairs investigation over how the case is handled. The MPD stated that they were called to a Washington, D.C., address with a report of an assault, the police department mentioned in a statement.
MPD spokesperson Tom Lynch said that Mills is the subject of the investigation even though he was not named in the report. “I can confirm that Cory Mills is the subject being investigated for alleged assault,” Lynch said.
The police department mentioned there is “an active criminal investigation, and there is no further information on the case to provide at this time.”
A police report stated: “[Her boyfriend for over a year] grabbed her, shoved her, and pushed her out of the door,” the outlet said. The same report states that Mills told Raviani to lie about how she got the bruises on her arms.
The police report states that Raviani asserted that the Florida representative used his hands and feet during the assault. “This week, law enforcement was asked to resolve a private matter at Congressman Mills’ residence,” Mills’ congressional staff mentioned in a statement. “Congressman Mills vehemently denies any wrongdoing whatsoever and is confident any investigation will clear this matter quickly.”
The victim, who reported the situation to the police, told The News-Journal that a medical condition caused her bruising.
Raviani told The News-Journal that she takes some responsibility for the incident, which she described as “emotionally charged.”
“Wednesday, I reached out to law enforcement to address a personal matter,” she wrote in the text. “Several factors influenced my decision to involve the authorities.”
“I had just returned from a 14-hour flight, severely jet-lagged and sleep-deprived,” she added. “Additionally, I had been drinking during my vacation, and I had a drink in front of me when the officers arrived, which contributed to my emotional state.”
“Upon their arrival, they noticed some bruising and marks on my arms, which I explained were the result of medical conditions like eczema and activities from my recent trip to Dubai,” the victim recalled. “While the personal matter in question has been emotionally charged, there was no physical altercation.”
“Regrettably, the situation has since been misrepresented by reporters and led to relentless harassment from various sources,” Raviani claimed. “Words have been taken out of context, and my privacy is being disregarded. This is a deeply personal matter being unfairly exploited for political purposes or other motives.”
In May 2024, Mills was mentioned as a possible running mate for Donald Trump in the 2024 election. He is also planning to run for Senate next year.
