Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier (R) has launched an “active criminal investigation” into Andrew Tate and his brother, Tristan Tate, self-described misogynists and accused rapists.
The two brothers presently face multiple rape and human trafficking charges in Romania. A court ruled last year that when the Romanian court proceedings concluded, Andrew and Tristan could be extradited to the U.K., where they face another set of charges for various sex crimes.
Despite a court order requiring the Tates to remain in a European nation for the duration of the investigation, the Trump administration asked that the brothers’ passports be returned.
After the brothers arrived in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) gave a press conference where he stated that Andrew and Tristan were not welcome in Florida, and declared that he would have the attorney general look into whether the state holds any jurisdiction over their crimes.
Uthmeier announced the investigation on Tuesday in a post to X, writing, “Based on thorough review of the evidence I’ve directed the Office of Statewide Prosecution to execute search warrants and issue subpoenas in the now-active criminal investigation into the Tate brothers.”
“These guys have themselves publicly admitted to participating in what very much appears to be soliciting, trafficking, preying upon women around the world,” he wrote.
Uthmeier further emphasized, “Many of these victims are coming forward, some of them minors—people can spin or defend however they want, but in Florida, this type of behavior is viewed as atrocious. We’re not going to accept it…They chose to come here and set their feet down in this state, and we’re going to pursue every tool we have within our legal authority to hold them accountable.”
Andrew has slammed Uthmeier and DeSantis in dozens of posts to X, all the while vehemently claiming himself to be innocent.
Andrew is an influencer on the misogynist side of the internet and a string advocate for Donald Trump through the 2024 campaign. He was previously banned from social media platforms for hate speech, including insistence that women are responsible for being sexually assaulted. He has since returned to the internet and has a growing following of young men and boys.
