Tarek and Christina El Moussa of HGTV’s Flip or Flop have decided to separate following an explosive fight in May.
The police responded to a “call of a possibly suicidal male with a gun” with 11 officers and a helicopter. Witnesses reported that they saw Tarek take his gun out of his safe and run down the hiking trail in their backyard. Moments later, they saw Christina run after him, shaking and crying.
The helicopter spotted Tarek and commanded him to put down the weapon, which he did. Later he told the police that he had no intention of harming himself or anyone else, but just wanted to “blow off some steam.” He claimed he brought the weapon for protection from wild animals.
Officers searched the home and seized five guns total, including an AR-15 rifle.
The couple has since decided to separate to reevaluate their marriage, but insist their main objective is to remain good parents for their two children, Taylor, 6, and Brayden, 15 months. The group had just been to see Santa and wish for presents.
“Like many couples, we have had challenges in our marriage. We had an unfortunate misunderstanding about six months ago, and the police were called to our house in an abundance of caution,” the stars told Us Weekly. “There was no violence and no charges were filed. We chose to get counseling to sort out our relationship. Together, we have decided to separate while we reevaluate the future of our marriage. During this process, we are committed to our kids and being the best parents we can be.”
