Sotheby’s New York sold one of the world’s largest flawless diamonds at auction on Tuesday for over $22 million.
The 100.20-carat diamond, the highlight of Tuesday’s Magnificent Jewels auction, was expected to sell for as much as $25 million, and ended up fetching $22,090,000.
“Simply put, it has everything you could ever want from a diamond: the classic shape begs to be worn, while the quality puts it in an asset class of its own,” said Chairman of North and South America for Sotheby’s International Jewellery Division Lisa Hubbard.
The emerald-cut diamond was boasted as being “Internally Flawless” and “unlike any diamond offered at auction before.” The identity of the buyer is unknown.
