#FirstDateSelfie is a growing trend on Instagram that provides single users with a new way to feel bad about themselves.

The hashtag is pretty self-explanatory: a couple shares selfies supposedly taken on their first date. The hashtag is reportedly popular among young, teenage users, but adults have hopped on the trend as well.

L’Oreal Thompson Payton, 27, for example, took her #FirstDateSelfie in 2011 with a point and shoot camera (technology that has now been replaced by the smart phone) and only recently shared it on Instagram with the hashtag.

“I was looking at [the picture] today and was thinking ‘how life has changed (for both of us) since we met!’ It was a slow start but looking back I realize how perfect the timing actually was.. especially after being solo for many years. So if you are #single I just want to say, don’t give up, true love could be just around the corner,” Payton wrote.
