The first trailer for the reboot of the 90s phenomenon Power Rangers landed at Comic Con, and it is much darker than anticipated.
This new franchise seems to take itself more seriously, as it follows a group of misfits who find themselves suddenly endowed with strong powers following an explosion. Instead of the cutesie theme song of old, this trailer was set to a chilling rendition of Johnny Cash’s “Walk the Line” by Halsey.
The trailer only gives an extremely brief visual of the Red Ranger being suited up, but we still don’t have a clear picture of what the suits will look like. From the trailer, though, the colors will definitely be more subdued and metallic than what the 90s fans are used to.
We also briefly meet the infamous Rita Repulsa, played by Elizabeth Banks, who declares, “I’ve killed Rangers before.”
Additionally, Zordon will be played by Bryan Cranston. Naomi Scott (Kimberly/Pink Ranger), Becky G. (Trini/Yellow Ranger), Dacre Montgomery (Jason/Red Ranger), Ludi Lin (Zack/Black Ranger) and RJ Cyler (Billy/Blue Ranger) will also star.
