First Trailer For ‘Clarice,’ New ‘Silence Of The Lambs’ Series, Released

The first trailer for the upcoming psychological horror series Clarice was released on Sunday. Clarice serves as a sequel series to the 1991 iconic film The Silence of the Lambs based on the book of the same name by Thomas Harris. Taking place exactly one year after The Silence of the Lambs, Clarice stars Rebecca Breeds as the titular character Clarice Starling where she resumes her career as an FBI agent pursuing sexual predators and serial killers in Virginia now that the conflict with Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine) has been dealt with. While Clarice will be the star of her own series, the iconic villain Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) will not appear or even be mentioned due to issues regarding the rights to the character.

The trailer opens with Clarice having a nightmare about her experience with Buffalo Bill. As she wakes up, she realizes that she was only having a bad dream and sighs in relief. The song “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver starts to play as the audience is shown brief shots of Clarice being interviewed by various reporters on the street. The character Ruth Martin (Jayne Atkinson) informs her that she is a woman with a very public reputation of hunting monsters. Clarice replies that she cannot have a reputation if she has only done it once. Martin then sternly responds that it is time for her to own that reputation and come out of hiding.

The trailer then cuts to Clarice in rural West Virginia with her being asked how long it has been since she was here. Clarice states that it has been years with many old ghosts haunting her now. Clarice’s new superior (Michael Cudlitz) states that she is not in Buffalo anymore and will follow his rules and keep quiet when he tells her to unless he says otherwise. As Clarice investigates a serial killer’s house, a colleague states that the situation is getting worse, to which the former replies that it always gets worse. The music starts to pick up as Clarice states to the camera to never let anyone decide for them whether or not their story is worth telling. The trailer ends with Clarice telling a hostage that she is safe, only for the woman to viciously reply that she will never be safe and neither will she, before cutting to a shot of the infamous well that Buffalo Bill trapped people in.

Clarice will premiere on February 11 on CBS where fans of The Silence of the Lambs can see the title character’s story continue.
