The documentary, which premiered at Sundance in January, promises to give fans a never before seen look at Cobain’s life. The documentary spans most of the rocker’s life, starting with his childhood and ending with a suicide attempt in Rome (one month before he died).
Directed by Brett Morgen, the documentary boasts a host of new and rare footage of Cobain including new music. Morgen worked closely with Courtney Love and her daughter with Cobain, Frances Bean Cobain, and Love contributed home footage of the young family to the film.
“Roughly 85% of the material that audiences will see in Montage of Heck has never been seen or rarely seen. This includes several audio cues, portions of a recorded autobiography,… extensive home movies of Kurt’s childhood and never before seen interviews with Kurt’s father, mother and sister. The film also features never before seen footage of Kurt at home with Courtney and Frances,” said Morgan.
Morgan credits Cobain’s family, Love and Frances Bean with most of the footage in the documentary, and teased, “I believe this might be as close to Kurt as we are likely to get.”
Cobain: Montage of Heck will be released in theaters in the UK on April 10, and will air on HBO on March 4.
