'Finding Dory,' Sequel To 'Finding Nemo,' To Hit Theaters November 2015

Finding Dory, the upcoming sequel to 2003’s Finding Nemo, will arrive in theaters on November 25, 2015.

Following the misadventures of Dory, the film will tell the story of the beloved memory-lacking Blue Tang friend of Nemo, picking up roughly a year after Finding Nemo ended. And while the clown fish won’t be the star, he’ll still be in the film, alongside his father Marlin among others. Although the travel plans of the motley crew of marine life are still mostly under wraps, it has been confirmed that they’ll spend some time along the California coast.

Ellen DeGeneres will be back voicing the absent-minded fish, and couldn’t be more effusive in describing her delight at returning to the role. “I have waited for this day for a long, long, long, long, long, long time,” DeGeneres said. “I’m not mad it took this long. I know the people at Pixar were busy creating Toy Story 16. But the time they took was worth it. The script is fantastic. And it has everything I loved about the first one: It’s got a lot of heart, it’s really funny, and the best part is—it’s got a lot more Dory.”

Director Andrew Stanton, who helmed Nemo, is gladly returning with DeGeneres to the Pixar franchise. “There is no Dory without Ellen,” he said of the new movie’s star. “She won the hearts of moviegoers all over the world—not to mention our team here at Pixar."

Pixar is likely hoping that Finding Dory will give it the boost at the box office that Cars 2 and Brave (although a critical darling) had failed to generate. It will be arriving over two years after Monsters University, the follow up to Monsters, Inc., which premieres this June.

Finding Dory will be DeGeneres's first starring role, in an animated or feature production, since Finding Nemo.
