Financial Guru Jen Sincero On ‘You Are A Badass At Making Money’ [VIDEO EXCLUSIVE]

Jen Sincero wasn’t always rich. And she didn’t always know how to make money, either. But a couple of New York Times Best Selling books later, Sincero knows what she is talking about and has written about it in her new book, You are a Badass at Making Money.

“I am somebody who went from being broke to rich and I feel like I have a lot of information to share with people who feel stuck in the same way I felt,” Sincero told uInterview exclusively. “I studied finance, I read lots of book on money, and I also really looked at my mindset about money and noticed what my limiting beliefs were.”

Those limiting beliefs, or beliefs we have about what money is and how it will affect our lives, greatly holds people back from becoming wealthy. “Stuff like ‘money is the root of all evil,’ or ‘you’ve got to work really hard to make money,’ or ‘you have to do stuff that’s really fun to make money,’ … those kinds of things, we take in as the truth when we are little.” And, in the end, they hold us back.

“So what happens is, we grow up and we want to make lots of money because money is really fun and yet we have these deep, underlying, self-conscious beliefs that are holding us back,” says Sincero. “It isn’t until you become aware of what those are and re-write those stories, that you can get out of your own way and allow yourself to get rich.”

Even more simple than identifying and eradicating these deeply held beliefs is simply acknowledging and committing to the idea that you want to get rich, Sincero notes. In fact, it should be the first step you take towards getting rich.

“The one thing you can do is, honestly, make the decision to get rich. I know that sounds really easy and maybe even a little stupid but you’d be amazed at how powerful that is.” Once the decision is made, it is easier to focus on big ideas, see past one’s fears, and venture out into the unknown.

But once you start making money, Sincero says, you don’t have to shove it all into savings. Not only is it good to, but you should spend a little money on fun things to keep yourself motivated.

“Put stuff away for the future, pay off your debts, but also have fun with your money because if you don’t let yourself have any fun with it and it’s already spent before it comes in, even the process of making it isn’t enjoyable,” says Sincero. “If spending a little money will get you to that place where money is fun and you’re excited to make it, then you are going to be more proactive about making it instead of constantly socking it away and making it a fun-free experience.”

Sincero’s book You are a Badass at Making Money is available.
