Fans have been anticipating Westworld‘s second season, though it turns out the wait will be longer than expected. While Westworld was set to return sometime next spring, filming has been paused following an injury sustained by one of the show’s staff members.
TMZ reported the news, noting that an HBO spokesperson explained how filming at one of the two locations has been temporarily paused because one of the recurring cast members recently suffered an emergency. According to a source on the set, one of the male actors fell and injured his head while he was home. It’s reportedly “serious.”
EW corroborates the story, as HBO presented them with the following statement:
“Due to a medical emergency involving a performer in a recurring role on season 2 of Westworld, filming on one of the two units has been temporarily suspended. The cast member was not on set when this occurred, and out of respect for the performer’s privacy, we have no additional details to share, other than that everyone at Westworld sincerely hopes for a quick recovery.”
It’s currently unknown how long this will affect production of Westworld‘s next season.
Thus far, the sci-fi triller has proven to be a critical success; it was nominated for 22 Emmys this year, five of which it won.
