Rita Ora, the British pop singer, landed the role of Christian Grey’s sister Mia in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie last year, which surprised Ora as much as anyone else.
Prior to landing the role of Mia, Ora’s acting experience included two childhood roles and an un-credited appearance in Fast & Furious 6 as a racer. Ora approached Fifty Shades of Grey producers, but not for a part in the film. She had merely hoped to get involved somehow in the film’s soundtrack. However, upon meeting with them, she learned they thought she might fit the bill for the part of Mia.
"It ended up with me being in the movie," she told MTV News.. "I'm not going to complain."
Although the producers liked the idea of her being in Fifty Shades of Grey, Ora still had to work to land the role. “I did like eight auditions, so I thought I would never get it,” revealed Ora. “It was incredible that it worked out."
Ora found the experience of being on a movie set, taking a break from her music, to be a cathartic experience. "Doing the movie was probably one of the best things ever, being in Vancouver, getting out of the music and just making it work was really good," Ora revealed.
While Ora opened up about how she was cast and the time away from her music, she remained tightlipped when it came to talking about the much-anticipated first installment in the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise. "I'm literally sworn to secrecy,” said Ora. “But what I can say is expect something that would really make it worth your while."
Fifty Shades of Grey, starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, is slated to hit theaters Feb. 14, 2015.
