‘Fifty Shades Darker’ Gets ‘R’ Rating, Dodges NC-17

Fifty Shades Darker, the anticipated sequel to last year’s Fifty Shades of Grey, based on the E.L. James novel of the same name, has escaped an NC-17 rating from the MPAA.

FIFTY SHADES DARKER WILL CARRY R RATING

In an MPAA issued statement, the film was given an R rating for “strong erotic sexual content, some graphic nudity and language.” The film follows the onscreen romance of Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) and Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan). The original film also received an R rating.

The first trailer for the sequel cam out in September and featured many steamy encounters between the characters. Fifty Shades Darker is set to hit theaters on Feb. 10, 2017, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
